POST CAMP TAUNT 2018 – PRE CAMP TAUNT 2019

Tis the season to be jolly!  The NBA and the college seasons are underway.  The local high schools began practicing this week.  Basketball season is back and will still be around for the 2019 opening of the Coupeville Treatment Center.  It is time to briefly consider lacing, (or in some cases velcroing) up the Taylor’s while sitting in your favorite chair with a frosty mug of brew.  It certainly is going to be a great season.

The 2018 30th ANNIVERSARY OF THE HOOPAHOLICS TREATMENT CENTER was outstanding!  My personal admiration and thanks to everyone who made the weekend a wonderful memory.  It’s an honor to be a part of this outstanding group of people.

HIGHLIGHTS (some things to jog your memory)

  • The Weather and Beach – enough said!
  • 5 teams @ 2-3
  • The Rookies – Great to have you guys along for the weekend! The welcome mat will always be there for you, however, the lane will not.
  • Mr. Stillsucks is now known as Mr. Mediocrity! First Championship in over 20 years
  • Dodd didn’t break anything or anyone
  • All you guys who came banged up and played anyway! Michael Ladd = bilateral hip replacement (did I state that right Herb?) – Big Ed Sputh = recent shoulder surgery – Andy Erlandson = narly ankle sprain - Rob Marshall = achilles-itis (also Sarge buried his forearm in Rob’s eye) – Mike Robertson = recent shoulder surgery – others?
  • Alan Elser on the floor more than Dodd (4x in one game)
  • Coach Hayford
  • 74 year old Art Haug

Special Thanks to Coach Jim Hayford, his wife Robin, and son Joe for taking time to be with us on Sunday morning.  How bout those Redhawks!  SU 78 WSU 69

Double Thanks to Steve Hawes, Bruce Case, Freddy Jackson, Clay Roberts and the others who started this outstanding weekend 30 years ago on the outdoor courts at Ft. Casey.  It’s because of you, that we get to enjoy this event.  Thank you!

Thanks also to the folks at Coupeville High School, Coach Dave/Amy King, Coupeville Boosters – specifically Amy who coordinated the food and beverages, and Vivian who coordinated our BBQ.

Finally, a Thanks to Ira and the fellas for “working” camp this year.  You guys always help keep the weekend in perspective and remind us how doggone awful Nixon is.

PRE-CAMP TAUNT 2019

Planning for the 2019 HOOPAHOLICS WEEKEND are underway.  This year’s camp will be June 14-16 at the Ft. Casey Spa and Hot Springs. The theme is 31-NEVER DONE!  It is the hope and dream of players, past and present, to keep this event moving forward for the next 30 years.  Nobody gets to sub a Danny Noonan for an Al Czervik.  Cannonball and play through.

The website is up to date and is ready to view.  We are in the process of adding photos and “other” information to enhance your bathroom reading experience.  If any of you have some old “memories” you would like to share, get them to us and we’ll do our best to post it.

PRE-REGISTRATION WILL BE OPEN PRIOR TO THANKGIVING!!!!!!

That’s correct fellas, pre-reg is opening at www.hoopaholicscamp.net soon! Those of you who pre-register before Jan 1, 2019 will receive a 2019 “special edition” hat and an opportunity to choose a player that you would like to run with.  Anyone who pre-reg’s prior to Jan 1, Legend or Rook, will have an opportunity to choose a teammate.  After 1/1, you will be at the mercy of the very knowledgeable selection committee.  NOTE: Remember – “Individuals attend Hoopaholic’s, not Teams! “ and in keeping with the spirit of the weekend, teams will still be arranged accordingly.

IMPORTANT

The years Mac Classic will be held December 1, 2018 in the Fife High School

Gym.  The days line-up is:

11:30am - Prairie vs Spanaway Lake

3pm - Steilacoom vs Sequim

4:45pm - Franklin vs Stadium

6:30pm - Kentwood vs Union

8:15pm - Fife vs Black Hills

As mentioned at camp, there are some opportunities to help financially with this event by way of buying advertising space or direct contribution to the John McCrossin scholarship. The forms are included in this message as an attachment.

Thank you for remembering John, supporting this outstanding event, and contributing to the dreams of some worthy students.
